MobileMuster to be showcased at the Sustainable Living Festival, Melbourne

Now in its eleventh year Melbourne’s Sustainable Living Festival showcases a huge range of exhibitors, talks, workshops, art, films and performances celebrating and inspiring sustainable communities.SLF-FB-Logo

The Main Event at Federation Square, in the heart of Melbourne, runs from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st of February and features the very best examples of ecological and social sustainability. The event will fuse interactive workshops, talks, demonstrations, artworks, exhibits, films and live performances. In 2009 the Festival at Federation Square attracted over 124,000 visits and engaged more than 450 community volunteers.

MobileMuster, the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry, will be an exhibitor (Stand 75 near the Design Tent of Federation Square). Milton MobileMuster will be a special guest each day from 1-3 handing out recycling satchels to those attending.   To encourage festival attendees to recycle their old mobiles Sony Ericsson has donated a Naite handset as a prize.  To go in the draw to win this great prize all people have to do is to either recycle their mobiles at the MobileMuster stall during the Festival or post them in with a completed entry form using either a MobileMuster recycling satchel or mailing label before 12 March 2010.

On Sunday 21st February at 2.00 pm Chris Mason, Chairman of MobileMuster, will host a session titled “Lifecycle of a mobile phone – Old phones, New Life” in the Design Tent. This will feature a presentation by Rose Read, Manager, Recycling of MobileMuster. The session will address topics including;  what goes into making a mobile phone? Where do the materials come from, how has the mobile phone evolved over time? What materials can be recycled and what do they get turned into? Is it better to recycle a mobile then have it reused in developing countries? How much energy does it take to recycle – what are the benefits to the environment. How much is your old mobile phone really worth?

The Main Event hours are 10-6 Friday and Saturday, 10 – 5 Sunday and entry is free.
