Almost 500 schools have registered for MobileMuster’s schools recycling challenge, which runs across all four terms of the school year.SRC2010-School Milton_with text

At the half way mark, 73 of the participating schools have already sent in nearly 500 kilograms of old mobiles for recycling, which is an excellent result, says Rose Read, Manager of AMTA’s MobileMuster recycling program.

To acknowledge their contribution so far, schools which sent in 8 kg or more will receive 10 Milton Muster prize packs each. Likewise, the school in each State that either collected the most phones by weight overall or the most phones by weight per student will receive trees for planting at the school and stationery to the value of $500 courtesy of MobileMuster and Officeworks. The national school champion for both the highest weight overall and highest average weight per student will also receive trees and school stationery courtesy of Officeworks to the value of $750.

There are also State and National Student Champion awards for those students who collected the most number of handsets per state and nationally. State student champions will receive a $100 environmental book pack and the National Student Champion will receive a $250 Family Experience Voucher.

Winning schools and students will be announced this week.

The challenge is ongoing and registrations still can be made here.  There will be further prizes awarded for the second half of the challenge and overall for 2010.
