MobileMuster, the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry has again invited all local councils across Australia to apply for a 2011-12 e-Waste Collection Grant of up to $5,000 each.

Councils play an important role in educating residents and communities about waste and recycling. They are also key partners in helping MobileMuster promote and collect mobile phones and accessories for recycling.

MobileMuster shares local government’s goals to decrease waste to landfill, increase recycling rates and in particular the need to offer residents a free and integrated e-Waste recycling service that is funded by industry. Therefore, MobileMuster is pleased to announce its second round of local council grants for e-Waste Collections.

The purposes of the grants are to help councils run integrated e-Waste collections in their area that includes the collection of mobile phones and accessories.

Councils can use the grant to promote collections or purchase items to streamline the collection process. MobileMuster will also pay the successful applicant $2.20 per kilogram of mobile phone components collected through a council managed e-Waste collection service (where mobile phone components have to be separated from a wider collection), as well as pick up and recycle all mobile phone components for free.
