1. Backup all of your data to your laptop or cloud before performing any resets.
  2. Before resetting, remove your SIM card and any memory card. If possible, make sure the phone is charged to 100% so that the phone will be powered to complete the reset process.
  3. Follow the instructions below for your model of phone. If your model is not listed please visit the HTC website for further information.



Model:Thunderbolt(2011-12),One (M8),One X/One X‍+

Phone off – hard reset

  • Press the following buttons in this order and hold down simultaneously:

    • Volume Down

    • Power

  • Hold for 5 seconds until 3 Android images appear, then release  buttons.

  • Scroll usingVolume Downbutton down to Factory Reset.

  • Select Factory Reset using the power button.


From the menu

Home screen > Menu > Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset > Reset phone > Erase everything.

Model:One (M8), One X/One X‍+


From the menuHome screen > Menu > Settings >  Backup & reset > Reset Phone > Erase SD card > OK.
