Local councils leading sustainable action

The local government race to recycling is well and truly on with thirty five local councils  in the running for MobileMuster’s top awards. Despite lockdowns over the past year local councils have risen to the recycling challenge. They continue to find innovative ways to support MobileMuster and encourage their communities to recycle

“Councils play an important role in transforming how we can live more sustainably and enabling a circular economy in the future.” Spyro Kalos, Head of MobileMuster said.

MobileMuster will showcase their top council recyclers at the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) National General Assembly in Canberra in June 2021. MobileMuster has been partnering with local councils for over 15 years to make recycling accessible and community friendly.

“We have local governments ranging from our largest metropolitan councils, such as Brisbane City, through to rural shires, such as Baw Baw Shire, participating in the MobileMuster program.”

The program works with over 360 councils around the country to help divert thousands of tonnes of non-renewable resources out of landfill and back into the manufacture of new products. Positive partnerships with local councils are a key factor in the success of the government accredited product stewardship program.

About the Awards

The awards are based on local councils who have collected the most mobile phone components for recycling between 1 May 2020 and 30 April 2021. The Top Collector in each state and territory as well as a Top Collector Per Capita will be announced at the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) National General Assembly in Canberra in June 2021.
