MobileMuster welcomes new member

The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) is pleased to announce that smartphone accessories distributor, Cellnet Australia, has joined the mobile telecommunications industry’s product stewardship program, MobileMuster.

“The mobile telecommunications industry is delighted to welcome Cellnet, one of Australia’s largest distributors and manufacturers of smartphone accessories to our world-class, government accredited program,” said Chief Executive Officer of AMTA, Chris Althaus.

“Our members work together to reduce the impact of mobile phones and accessories on the planet and ensure they are recycled responsibly when they reach the end of their life.”

Cellnet joins major mobile handset manufacturers and the country’s network providers who work in collaboration to provide a free national recycling program to their customers. Craig Kingshot, Managing Director Cellnet Australia, “We are excited to be joining MobileMuster, as it reinforces our commitment to sustainability and continuing our product stewardship journey.”

“As a company we have begun to remove plastic from our product packaging and are investing in the development of biodegradable products.”

“Being part of this industry led initiative gives us great confidence that when our customers have finished using their smartphone accessories, they will be recycled to the highest environmental standard.”

Since MobileMuster began in 1998 it has diverted more than 1,584 tonnes of mobiles and accessories from landfill, including nearly 15 million handsets and batteries. The program recovers over 95% of the materials it collects through recycling and then they are put back into the making of new products, avoiding future greenhouse gas emissions, saving energy, protecting our environment and conserving scarce natural resources.

Head of MobileMuster, Spyro Kalos, welcomed Cellnet as a new member to the program and said, “Product stewardship is about everyone playing their part, and it the case of MobileMuster it includes the manufacturers of mobile phones and accessories, network carriers and distributors.”

“MobileMuster highlights how voluntary schemes with high industry participation can work and achieve real social and environmental outcomes.”

MobileMuster accepts and recycles all brands and types of mobile phones, chargers, accessories and wearables.  Everything is recycled, nothing is resold and any data left on mobiles is destroyed through the recycling process. With over 3,500 drop-off points Australia wide for consumers to recycle their unwanted mobiles and accessories, recycling mobiles in Australia is easy and accessible.
